@tongue Let's say: 1. A website shows that it gives away an item. 2. You go and add it to a cart. 3. In the checkout: The item itself is free. vip membership price auto-included of 1$. shipping price included of $2.63 4. You press the Paypal button and the paypal website's url and ssl certificate is alright. 5. Before you press the button to pay for The item it says that you are buying a vip membership and not the actual item. Question: is this a Freebie scam? Who knows. Probably nobody will ship me anything and will only collect the moneys. https://www.liveabout.com/how-to-avoid-freebie-scams-1357913

Since they offered a legit paypal transfer of moneys. That's the only one I would have used, but with these kind of legal statements it's almost impossible to ask for a refund on such small amount of moneys or even a bigger ones.

16:46
Haven't seen a way how they could steal the credit card number, unless it is given away by Paypal itself. Maybe they just wrote some legal statements unless they start to feel like "collecting the credit cards numbers".
16:47
So, the main scam of that website is taking monies and shipping nothing. Secondary might only be a credit card collector.

Since I haven't confirmed anything or did anything suspicious, and only went on a paypal site to see what's up. I'm feeling pretty safe with my soon to expire credit card.

Fun fact: the QWERTY keyboard layout was actually designed to reduce the risk of jamming on early typewriters. There are other layouts like Dvorak that are easier to learn and faster. But not so much easier or so much faster to make it worthwhile to have everyone relearn and throw out millions of typewriters and keyboards. So that’s why we still use QWERTY.

17:24
People would not be able to use my computer if I learned Dvorak. I've heard that Dvorak is very efficient with English language. Which is good enough for me.
17:24
However, there are not many keyboards on the Market right now.
17:24
So I have no choice, but to use QWERTY.
17:25
If I ever to be part of a engineering and science project in the following decades. I'll probably drop the QWERTY.
Avatar
Uoou-Not-the-egg 02-Aug-22 05:33 PM
It's really the manufacturers to blame, they keep on selling QWERTY, There is absolutely no reason for them to drop the profits. Nobody wants to relearn the keyboard layout in the short term. Nobody will welcome the Dvorak keyboard layout initially. Everyone will search to buy QWERTY, due to the decades of culture. (edited)

If I had any kind of power, I'd ban QWERTY layout and would force everyone to use Dvorak or search for a better alternative.

17:51
The slow part of qwerty is digraphs, such as "ed" which occurs very frequently in english.
17:52
ideally, you should always alternate hands to type a word as much as possible, and minimize letters in the same column of the keyboard.
17:53
for example, when typing "lo" in "lonely", the ideal way to avoid losing speed is by using ring, then middle finger.

Uoou-Not-the-egg 02-Aug-22 06:29 PM
It's really not about the speed, but if it's designed to take as little brain load in the long term and if a new recruit can master it, maintain it without much trouble. I really don't know if any such measurements were taken on any layout. (edited)

Add a comment... khabuda 11 hours ago (edited) The pattern recognition became very clear to me when I learned Morse code. The human brain takes 50 milliseconds to process and understand a sound. People regularly send and receive Morse code at 30 words per minute, which puts the dit character and the gap between all characters at 40 milliseconds. So you literally have to process sounds faster than the brain can recognize them. Over time you start to hear whole words in the code rather than individual letters, but you still have to decode call signs character by character. You basically cache the sounds in your brain without processing them, and once the whole set of characters passes, your brain is able to turn it into an idea and add it to the stack of previous ideas while your ears are already caching the next set of characters.
